…but…
The gift of freedom needed a “but”. Our smallest words are often our most powerful. Jesus understood this,
“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done” Luke 22:42 esv
Put plainly, Jesus was saying I know that you can change this, I know that I could change this. But I know the the pain and suffering are necessary for our Freedom to be our gift to humanity so we can have our original relationship with them. My humanity doesn’t want this, my deity knows its the only way. I have to ask you to stop it so I can say the words that will bring this freedom into being. So, not my human will, BUT your will, your purpose, your grace, your mercy, your gift, I surrender, yield, submit myself to you. In everything, it is your will and not mine.
Freedom is a gift, bought with a terrible price but willingly and freely given. All we need to do is accept it by surrendering everything, in every sense everything, and yielding our will to Gods will. True freedom comes from God alone. There is nothing we can do, be or achieve that can vaguely match that freedom. As humans we can create the illusion of freedom, but, only God can gift us the real Freedom that brings abundant life. The ultimate surrender for the greatest gift.
