Surrendering & Yielding
“God, reveal what your freedom really means deep in my spirit, so that it becomes part of my DNA”
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” Galatians 5:1 niv
What does this verse really mean at that level? Let’s take it backwards. The what is we HAVE been made free, its already happened, established and is truth. How has this happened - salvation, the cross, the resurrection and our surrender. Why did this need to happen - so we could live in Gods freedom, free from the slavery of the world, sin, and have a restored relationship with him.
You already know this, but you may not already be really living free. The difference is the step that takes you to that deeper place. It’s understanding the difference between surrendering and yielding.
When you understand that hanging on is going to cost you more than you are willing to sacrifice, you surrender. Its a largely intellectual, rational choice that leaves you with the chance of holding on to what you consider is yours.
When you realise that you don’t have the capacity or ability attain what is being offered to you, that what is being offered is so far beyond your own reach you’ll never reach it in your own effort, you are willing to lay everything you are and have at the feet of the one who is doing the offering, you yield. It is a heart attitude choice, knowing that the gift that is being offered far exceeds what you deserve. No longer wanting to hold on to anything. Knowing that who you are and what you will gain will far exceed the present and will last for eternity.
It’s at this point, deep in your soul, you get it. “To be free in all of me, you need my all - it is yours, Amen.”
