Double Freedom

Galatians 5:1 because Galatians 5:13

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free” because “you have been called to live in freedom”

We were set free to live free because we were made to live in freedom

so….don’t mess with freedom, you’ll end up being something else’s slave

Paul understood that salvation was for everyone, not just the Jewish people. He also understood the difficulty of leaving the Laws of Moses behind and living in and through the Spirit of God (the reason that Jesus left after the resurrection). Paul also understood that the Galatians were struggling leaving under the Law and with Gentiles becoming Christians. And this struggle was leading to conflict, prejudice and degrees of mixing the law and grace. As he put it" “There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28 nlt.

For the Galatians it was easy to slip into old ways of thinking and old attitudes and perspectives. Familiar religious rituals, trying to earn Gods favour, listening to other people speak contrary beliefs. For us the issues are often found in social media, listening to podcasts, reading random sayings and thoughts. Paul likens them to yeast, once it’s in flour its almost impossible to get it out. Once seen it hard to unsee, once listened too it hard not to recall. “Yeast” data is everywhere.

Jesus died to free us from the slavery of sin, from not caring or noticing it, from not pursing widom that throws the yeast out. That freedom must be held on to, understood as a gift, and honoured as a lifestyle that came at a huge price. It needs to be lived every day, because we are all called to live in it.

It is double freedom, freedom from sin and its slavery and freedom to live in gods actual freedom. Let your chains fall into his hands.
