The Power house
The Freedom Story hasn’t finished. In his Gospel, John records the things Jesus taught the disciples at their last meal together, a set of principles they would need to live by when he was gone, like:
14:1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me”
15:1 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener.”
15:6 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing”
15:12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.
15:16 “You didn’t choose me. I chose you.”
John was there, he was a friend and disciple, there in Jesus life, death, resurrection and ascention. Simply put, John wrote his gospel to inspire faith and prove that Jesus is the Son of God and anyone who believes in him will have eternal life. John, the “Son of Thunder”, was an eyewitness who recorded what he saw, learnt, and experienced.
Along side these foundations, Jesus also taught about the power and presence of the Spirit of god, his purpose was to empower us to live in these principles and the spiritual power and authority salvation has given us.
14:12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greaterworks, because I am going to be with the Father.”
John16:7 & 13“it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you….When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.”
Why this way? Principles first so that the practical outworking is governed by wisdom and the fear of God. True freedom comes from a mind, heart and soul that is honestly yielded to God. It’s in that yielded place that the Spirit of God, living in u, can truly work.
2 Corinthians 3:17 nlt For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
Galatians 5:25 nlt Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
