Life is layers

Hebrews 4:12 nlt

‘For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.’

I paint, life in colour, landscapes in layers. Clear layers that intertwine with messy ones, where you have to stand back and take time to see what’s happening.  That is our truth as humans, we have layers of good and of mess that are often difficult to clearly see or separate. Our truth as spiritual beings - created by God, saved from the consequences of sin and empowered by the fire of the Spirit - is that our layers always have company. They always have hope, the source of life, freedom from their false chains, consistency of love and acceptance, and a future, a purpose, a plan.

Living with layers requires the honesty and the courage to see when you look and the maturity to realise you need to look. It requires a relationship with God, creator, saviour and empowerer, that is deep, trusting and surrendered. One that tends your layers, so that they add to the abundance your life.

The Spirit of God cuts through our layers carving a path for power and fire to engulf them, laying down his presence in them, a presence that that will never leave. Is today the day you can say, God carve through my layers and change them forever?
