Silence speaks loudly

Psalm 19:1-3;14 nlt

‘The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
    The skies display his craftsmanship.
 Day after day they continue to speak;
    night after night they make him known.
 They speak without a sound or word;
    their voice is never heard.
 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
    and their words to all the world’.

The absence of words, silence, speaks loudly and powerfully. When words are absent, when they are superfluous to a situation, their influence is no longer there, the power they wield is no longer. As David so eloquently phrases it, the skies have no voice yet they speak, they proclaim. Silence speaks. When it does, its power eclipses words. This is a space where God can dwell, and dwell with you.

Silence needs you to understand and become comfortable with it. Learning to hear differently, responding it to with your spirit not reacting with your mind.

If you listen, silence holds the presence of God. Can you take a little time today to listen to the silence with him?

May the words of my mouth
    and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing to you,
    O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
