Music

Music is a language that’s spoken around the globe. Whatever the form, music creates a common denominator - everyone can participate in it simultaneously, whoever they are, wherever the come from, whatever language they speak. Its a unifier of strangers, creates ambience, sets and changes atmospheres and creates communities. It encourages people to express being, carries emotions, voices cultural expression, facilitates respect, pays homage and celebrates life.

Music is often the first indicator of shifting values in society and precedes reform. It provides narratives that change thinking and change perspective. Music draws in, provides new focus and can bring calm.

Music acts as a catalyst for transformation. Historically it has served as a powerful forerunner of social, political, and cultural change, often acting as the spark that ignites revolution, shifts public perception, or unites marginalized communities.

During the French Revolution (1792) "La Marseillaise" became battle cries for revolutionaries. Its now the French national anthem.

In the Civil Rights Movement (US, 1950s-60s) songs such as "We Shall Overcome” strengthened morale, fostered unity, and highlighted racism.

"Rapper's Delight" (1979) by The Sugarhill Gang, introduced hip-hop to a global audience, moving it from a localized Bronx phenomenon to a mainstream cultural force.

During COVID, Italian Balcony singing every evening, seen and heard by millions. “The Blessing” by Elevation Music in the US which went viral and was recorded and reposted by dozens of countries, bringing millions together as an outreach of encouragement and community.

Music connects, new music brings freshness for moving forward. Music is one of the greatest gifts we have. It can be deeply personal,  be easily shared and is a common group expression of worship and praise to God.
