The Story part 5 When it gets rough
Today was Jericho. Standing alone in the dark stillness he looked up, the canopy of stars took his breath away. So many colours sweeping across the sky. Awe struck his soul and settled around him. “What did David say? The heavens declare YHWH’s glory.” Everything had led to this, this place, this moment. The beauty of the “I am” gave him a peace he’d never known and one he would hold on to for the rest of his days.
The camels stirred readying themselves for an early crossing of the Jordan. They knew how it worked, they’d done it before. The sight of them, their stately pose in the flat bottomed ferry with the back drop of stars was quite something.
With everyone gathered safely on the other side, they started the walk into the city and into the bustle of the morning market. Aromas of spice and the smell of freshly cooking lamb felt like home, only bigger. Bread, lamb and tea sat on a box next to her, the sipping and nibbling lifting her spirits as she watched the comings and goings. It was good to be still and on her own just for a little while. Once Joseph had taken care of the animals he would be back with fresh dates, they would walk to their lodgings, lie down together and, holding hands, talk to each other of the promises in their future. In that space they would be still and let Elohim embrace them.
