Just God
Psalm 27 nlt, is an extraordinary declaration of Davids faith and intimate relationship with God. Verse after verse proclaims who God is and what Davids deepest desires are. In verse 11 he says, ‘teach me how to live’, ‘I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness..’. And in verse 1 ’The lord is my light and my salvation - so why should I be afraid?’
David tells us who God is, he asks God questions, he states absolutes and his security in God. His willingness to stand up in God and show his love with ‘…shouts of joy, singing and praising the Lord with music” v 6. David knows he has been created by God for a purpose, and for that reason he has the deepest desire to live in Gods presence. Verse 4 in the middle of the psalm says it all -
“One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple”.
He doesn’t doesn’t want anything, God isn’t a means to his ends, a source of delivering his wants, David just wants God. All of him, all the time so he can just delight in him. The ultimate fulfillment, satisfaction and love. The only reason to live.
Can you ask God Davids question today?
“Teach me how to live, O Lord”
Can you tell him your desire is
“..to live in his house all your days”?
Is this something you want with God, just Him? Take some time and chat to Him and see what happens.
