Set The Table

“Wisdom has built her house

She has hewn out its seven pillars

She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine

She has also set her table”

Proverbs 9:1-2 NIV

A table cloth goes down first, followed by knives and forks, a glass and a chair at each place. Down the centre of the table runs greenery, candles and place holders for platters of food. You have planned and prepared because you are expecting people. People to come and take their seats and enjoy the feast.

What if you arrived as a guest and the table wasn’t set, the cutlery was still in the draws, glasses in the cupboard and not enough seats to seat everyone coming, and a weeks worth of laundry piled high on the table?

How would you feel? Would you feel welcomed? Would you stay?

It can be this way in life. We have hopes and dreams, desires for more, increase and change. But have we made a ‘place’ for them at the table that is our life. If we were to picture our life as a table it would make sense to ‘set’ it for what we are hoping and praying for.

Does your life have a place of welcome for the answers to your prayers?
