Tables from Trees

How do we make tables from trees? Why would we even want to?

Let’s take the second question first -why make tables? Our lives are complex and messy. Our views and choice are influenced by all the information available to us and we can change them at a click or a swipe. Tables, lives, crafted from Gods trees are stable and steady, reliable and sure.

First question how do we make tables form those trees? Simple, understanding and choice.

I can hear you & yes I’m serious it can be that simple. Let me give you a principle and couple of examples.

Our tables of life are shaped by how we experience the world, how we see it and therefore where we live from. These are our perceptions, perspectives and our context. Ok. These preceptions fill our thoughts, hearts and emotions. They govern our whole lives. How? Well, they burrow deep. They drive our beliefs, attitudes and behaviours. They’ll influence our world view (our concept of the world outside ourselves) as well as our intents (why we live the way we do).

Sounds a bit complex? In some ways it is because they are so encompassing. In some ways they are just a simple cascade of reactions we don’t even register. Here’s an example…

You’ve been told that all cats are savage biters, have fleas and are disgusting. At the time you believed it so you accepted it as truth. Here’s how it translates into every part of you.

Intent - All cats are gross!

World View - Anyone who likes cats is nuts

Behaviour - I kick cats if they come too close

Attitude - Cats are disgusting and so are you if you even tollerate them

Belief - I am right about cats

Perception - Your cat could kill me, get it away from me

Perspective - I was told that cats are revolting, its the truth

Here’s the understanding. You didn’t even give yourself the choice about cats, it just became your truth because someone said so. It became a simple cascade that became a complex part of your life. One that requires constance maintainance and defence to keep it strong.

The truth is that initial statement is wrong. It was just someone’s opinion you didn’t verify and choose for yourself. How do you undo all this? Its not easy with the cat thing, but its much simpler with the truth.

Here’s the choice.

Perspective: God is real, I have chosen to have a relationship with Him. Intent: I am a child of God, a Kingdom dweller and I intend to live my life from his truths and foundations.

Gods trees are the foundations of truth and wisdom. The tables, lives, we make from them will be extraordinary. If you change your perspective the cascade of wisdom follows. Life becomes less complex and messy because we have a constant reference point for every aspect of it. God.

The Tree of Life is God. His gift to us is a relationship, where we get to choose life in all of its extraordinary abundance and adventure

“Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those that hold her tightly” Proverbs 3:18 NLT

“I am the way, the truth and the life” John 14:6 NLT
