The Gift of Restoration
The restoration of old furniture has become quite popular in recent years.
Stripping back furniture to get rid of the ware and tare “the old” of the years gone by. Taking the piece back to the original state “factory settings” as they say to the original purpose and design the item was created for. Sometimes taking a lot of energy and time, but the result can be stunning.
By taking all of those years of good ideas, mind changes, latest fads, everyday dirt and “living”, you have an item of furniture in a state that now requires a layer of protection to be next season ready. Its like having an old wooden dining table, that then becomes a kids play table, then an outdoor table and then kept in the back of the shed because it use to be Great Aunt Marie’s dining room table. The table is still structurally sound and a healthy table underneath all of those years of use. However, it would need to be cleaned, stripped of any paint and varnish, sanded back, any damage repaired, sanded again. Then a sealing coat would be applied and allowed to cure. A once loved but gradually ignored table is now lovingly restored to its original purpose and for many years to come, it becomes a place to do life, eat and enjoy .
What if that was you? Your life? Are you in need of the gift of restoration? Do you or your life feel like Great Aunt Marie’s dining room table in the back of the shed? What could your life be if this gift was offered to you?
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 NIV
