When you look - see
Seems a simple statement but, as always, there is so much more to it. In one form or another throughout the Word we are urged to hear when we listen and see when we look. Come with me as we break the looking and seeing concept down. There are several parts to this “see” concept, some do’s and some don’ts.
Lets deal with the don’ts first:
When you look, in any context, don’t skim, rush, assume, presume, predict, expect or allow bias or prejudice to be present.
Why? Because you will always miss something vital, see things that aren’t there, miss things that are, see what you want and expect to see, make things up and believe them to be true. Your brain responds to your unconscious as well as your conscious personal perceptions and frames what you see accordingly. This happens before you begin to rationally process your actual visuals.
Believe me, it actually happens, all the time. We take in so much information our brains process visual data before we rationally quantify it into understandable visual content. The world gets this and uses it as a tool from marketing to influencing and beyond.
Now the do’s:
When you look do so with an open mind, take time to look around and beyond what you see, prepare to be excited, delighted, stunned, challenged, introduced to new things, as well as the opportunity to see differently. Do drop your own framework and wait for the new to appear. Why? Because this is seeing with Kingdom eyes, seeing as Jesus saw, seeing as God intended and seeing what the Spirit of God wants to reveal. This way of seeing will always give you something worthwhile to take with you, something to think about, dwell on. A treasure from the Kingdom.
Matthew 13:12-17 NLT Look at the top photo what do you see? write it down. Now look at the one below, what do you see? write it down. Let me know what you discovered at mahaiafarmtable@gmail.com. We’ll talk about it next post.
